The Big 10

May 1st Lawson turned the big one-zero. He has been very eager to get out of the single digits, it's a big deal to him now. I guess at that age double digits mean your not too far off from the (dreaded) teens. Oh, we can't wait <----sarcasm.

The little man started his birthday off a couple days early when a birthday package arrived from grandma and grandpa mills in Ute-ah, heavy on the "Ute" (as Lawson likes to say it). He received some great gifts, which included some new Tony Hawk gear that he's all about lately. For the first week he didn't take that hat off and he's really not that big into hat's. He is now. Good purchase grandma!

We think 10 is a good age to start toning down the big birthday parties. He's had some good ones, but this one was low key. For the weekend we went with some friends up to grandma Clara's farm in Palestine. About a 4.5 hour drive from our house, but once we arrived the kids had 100 and some-odd acres to run around on. It was only a short 2 day trip, but we packed it full of fun.

We did some bean bag toss. He was pretty good at it. It's amazing how much fun throwing a couple little bean pillows into a hole can be. You ought to try it some time.

We went through about 100 water balloons. I'm not sure how it happened, but once we filled them all and they said go, Lawson and his three friends ran straight for dad and didn't let up. He doesn't remember ever stating that he was interested in participating in this war game, but it didn't matter. They must have received intel' regarding his extensive water balloon combat experience and thought it would be good to take him out just in case.

There was also some extreme water gun fighting. What we didn't get pictures of is all the fishing we did. The farm has a little lake full of fish. All the kids had an opportunity to catch multiple fish from the shore and from the row boat. Trout and blue gills were the primary catch, all were thrown back to live another day. We had plenty of hot dogs, smores, red barron pizza's and other snacks; cleaning and frying up a fish just sounded like to much work with four hungry kids on our hands.

More gifts from friends. The little whistling Packer football his friend gave him was just about worn out after only two days of being thrown non-stop.

Happy 10th Birthday monkey. You're our little boy that has grown into a young man over night. This last decade just seems like a blur. I wonder what the next ten will feel like. We love you bug.
