Last Sunday we went to church, did some yard work, and finished off the afternoon with a hike to the Suncrest pond. For those of you familiar with the drive up here, directly across from the Suncrest sign on the way up the mountain, there is a pond that usually stays around until mid-summer. It's a perfect place to take smella bella to cool off and work on her swimming technique.
Even though she is a lab, our little furry princess isn't exactly the best swimmer. For some reason her rear paddles don't seem to engage when she's in deep water. She is literally draggin' some wagon when she swims. It's the funniest thing in the world to watch. She does this kind of panicked doggy paddle thing that is unlike any swimming do you've seen. All in all, the hike was a good one. We had a little picnic while Belle played and relaxed in the warm grass under the afternoon sun. The hike wasn't too bad. In the pictures you can see the pond way down the hill over our shoulder. It took us about 30 minutes to get down and about 45 to get back up. Lawson was the leader all the way home (he was reluctant at first, but after I carved him a walking stick, he went all out. He even insisted on carrying my Camelpak...what a man).
