Doughnut Falls...mmm...mmm...brrrr

Last weekend we decided to take advantage of the start of the nice summer weather and headed up to Doughnut Falls in Big Cottonwood canyon. It's not a long hike (about 1.5 miles round trip) and it's pretty easy for families.

Monkey-monk brought his binoculars just in case there were any bears, birds, or deer to see. Unfortunately all we saw were a few squirrels, appropriately named by Lawson "Alvin", "Simon" and "Theodore".

The water was freezing. To get these pictures, we had to walk out about 10 feet through ankle deep ice water to get to the rock we're sitting on. Niki and I had shoes on, but poor Lawson just had sandles. He said his feet were frozen when he got out. Luckily the 90 degree weather dried us out before we got to the bottom of the trail.

The entire trip, including a stop at the top for some pictures and a snack, 1 hour 45 minutes. All in all, not a bad way to spend a sunny Saturday afternoon.
